Never Give Up

Why do you run?
I run because I’m grateful for a second chance at life after surviving brain cancer. Running reminds me to appreciate what my body can do, take care of my health, and never take an ordinary day for granted. It has also allowed me to explore new places, form meaningful friendships, and discover that I am capable of more than I once believed. |

Describe your best marathon memory.
My most recent and meaningful race memory was crossing the finish line at the Maui Oceanfront Half Marathon and completing my journey of running half marathons in all 50 states. I wore bib number 50, watched the sunrise over the ocean, saw a whale and calf during the race, and was surrounded by the support of my family and friends. It marked the end of a 4.5 yrs journey that I will never forget.
Why do you pace?
I pace because I believe runners at every pace deserve support and encouragement. I enjoy helping first-time half marathoners build confidence, as well as helping other runners stay steady and reach their race goals. Being part of their journey is what makes pacing meaningful to me.
Tell us your best pacing experience.
One of my favorite pacing experiences was leading a group of 12 runners, including 10 first-time half marathoners. They were nervous at the start, but they all finished and reached their goals, with some finishing even faster than expected. That is what made the experience so meaningful to me.

Why should someone run in your pace group?
I try to provide steady pacing, clear run/walk intervals, encouragement, and support along the way. I pay attention to the entire group and do my best to make sure no one feels alone. We will take the race one mile at a time, work together, and have some fun along the way.
Any tips for runners about to join your group?
Come ready to enjoy the race and work toward your goal. I will do my best to keep the pace steady, guide the run/walk intervals, and offer encouragement along the way. Stay with the group as long as it is helping you, and if you feel strong near the end, you are always welcome to move ahead.

Anything else you’d like to share? |
Running has taught me that progress looks different for everyone. You do not have to be the fastest runner to be proud of what you accomplish. Sometimes, simply showing up and continuing forward is enough.
What philanthropic activities do you have? |
I have been volunteering with a local wildlife rescue for >6 yrs. I help respond to calls involving injured and distressed wildlife and assist with getting the animals safely to appropriate care.
