Why do you run?

I started running because my son asked me to quit smoking, got the bug and haven’t stopped since.

Describe your best marathon memory.

It’s from my first marathon. My kids finished with me at the end. It was my first experience of the kindness of the running community and how willing they are to support each other with their accomplishments.

Why do you pace?

It’s my way of giving back to the running community. The joy of watching someone else overcome their struggles, and get to the finish line and realize their own sense of accomplishment is now more fulfilling for me than any PR I can set for myself.

Tell us your best pacing experience.

I was pacing a half marathon. One of the runners wanted to set a PR, and ran with me. Towards the end of the race, her diabetic monitors started buzzing. Her focus was just to PR, but my focus had to turn to her medical condition. Her medication was frozen due to the cold weather we were running in. We continued forward, step by step, trying to defrost her medication with the warmth of our hands. The last mile, she worsened and started to feel sick. But I encouraged her to give it one last shot, run for the finish as best as she could. She made it across the finish and hit her PR, and then immediately after got sick. Luckily her husband and children were there to see her set that PR and attend to her medical needs. She came back to me at the finish line, to say thank you and introduced me to her family. Her husband thanked me for caring for her and I realized a greater depth of the impact pacing can make.

Why should someone run in your pace group?

What philanthropic activities do you have?
