A quotation you like… |
There’s no such thing as bad weather, just soft people. –Bill Bowerman You have to forget your last marathon before you try another. Your mind can’t know what’s coming. –Frank Shorter |
Why do you run?
Because all the hockey leagues around me play between 11pm and 1am on weekdays and I need my beauty sleep. |
Describe your best marathon memory.
Milwaukee. My dad rode his bike along course stopping every couple of miles to cheer for me. Then when crossing the finish line I made the mistake of putting my hands on my knees and the volunteers hauled me off to the med tent. |
Why do you pace?
It has always been a fun and rewarding experience. Whether as an official pacer or just for a friend, it is a great feeling to help someone achieve a PR. |
Tell us your best pacing experience.
Chicagoland Spring Half Marathon 2011. It was cold, windy and raining, but my fellow pacer and I had a lot of fun with our group. The last 2 miles were into the wind so we had everyone get single-file behind me to draft. |
Why should someone run in your pace group?
It is always easier to run with a group than by yourself, especially if the group is tracking the pace for you. Also, I struggled with the marathon for a long time, so I have plenty of stories of the stupid things I have done (and continue to do) to keep you entertained. |
Any tips for runners about to join your group?
You will always be better off starting conservatively in the marathon. There is no such thing as “banking time”. |
Anything else you’d like to share? |
I became a Marathon Maniac after a marathon I registered for was cancelled and rescheduled the weekend before my next one. A combination of stubbornness and stupidity led me to opt not to defer to the next year and run them both.
