A quotation you like… |
“What does not benefit the hive is no benefit to the bee.” – Marcus Aurelius |
Why do you run? |
Challenge myself, stay fit, absorb the solitude of solo training runs, and help others to improve. |
Describe your best marathon memory. |
Realizing at mile 16 I had caught the lead female, and then pushing her well below her 3:20 PR goal. We both PR’d that day! |
Why do you pace? |
I like talking with runners who are entering uncharted territory with new goals, sharing tips on everything … nutrition, training plans, shoes, life struggles and fitness challenges. Everyone has a story, and just being able to tell it to someone who’ll listen is liberating! |
Tell us your best pacing experience. |
The most recent event, 20th Air Force Marathon (half) … the one young man who stuck with me the entire distance truly put everything he had into the race. He hit his goal with a flood of emotion. That’s what the pacer role is all about in my view. |
Why should someone run in your pace group? |
Because I’m carrying the sign with a goal they haven’t yet achieved and I will get them to the finish with the utmost confidence. |
Any tips for runners about to join your group? |
Relax! Nothing drains physical energy and endurance more than unnecessary emotional turmoil. My jokes are horrible, so be prepared to share some of your own. |
Anything else you’d like to share? |
Due to 29 years in the military, I speak with a lot of acronyms and technical jargon. Please, don’t hesitate to ask for English translation. |
What philanthropic activities do you have? |
I’ve been active as a project sponsor and volunteer in a wide variety of organizations including Habitat for Humanity, Team Red White and Blue, AM 300, Wounded Warrior Project, to name just a few. |
