Why do you run?

It’s my favorite way to spend time outside, explore new places, and challenge myself.

Describe your best marathon memory.

At the Chicago marathon in 2022 I was chasing sub 3:00:00 and had a great group of friends there to support. They were positioned at a corner downtown about halfway through the race and as I ran by, they were going absolutely wild along with hundreds of other spectators in that area. We have a video of that moment and it still gives me chills every time.

Why do you pace?

Teamwork is an underappreciated aspect of racing and I love being able to help people achieve their goals – whether that’s a PR, finishing a certain distance for the first time or just having a fun experience. The complexity of racing can be difficult to balance, from managing pace/effort to staying on top of nutrition/hydration and even just following course markings. Being able to take some of that complexity away from runners who’d like a helping hand allows them to focus on their goal. It’s such a rewarding experience for everyone involved.

Tell us your best pacing experience.

This will be my first race as an official pacer, but I have over a hundred hours of experience pacing friends/family/coaching clients in races, speed workouts, and long runs. I once paced a friend to a 3:35 PR in the Paris Marathon, which I couldn’t recommend highly enough for any international travelers.

Why should someone run in your pace group?

First and foremost I’m here for you and am happy to cater to your needs while respecting the rest of the pace group. You can trust that I’ll utilize a tried-and-true pacing strategy to deliver you across the finish line at our specified time if that’s your main reason for running with the group. If you’re in the pack for any other reason, I’ve got you covered too. I keep the spirits high and ensure anyone who needs a morale boost has someone they can rely on to encourage them. I can also explain/navigate the course, grab liquids/gels, or be someone to chat with to make the miles go by faster. Genuinely, if there’s anything you need I will do my best to help.

Any tips for runners about to join your group?

Stay patient! We’ll start off slightly slower than our goal pace and ease into it throughout the race, with a quick finish to land us right on target. This “negative split” pacing strategy is what I’ve found to be the most effective and rewarding for runners. The other piece of advice I have is communicate – ask questions, let me know how you’re doing, and don’t be afraid to speak up. I can only read minds so well, it’s much better to be direct – even if that means pulling up next to me for a 1:1 convo.

Anything else you’d like to share?

Not much else, other than I’m stoked to see everyone out there!

What philanthropic activities do you have?

Movember is a great group that raises money for men’s mental health awareness. You may have seen people rocking terrible mustaches in November which might be a sign that the person is raising money for Movember in that month. If you’ve been affected by for feel passionate about men’s mental health awareness, I encourage you to check out Movember.
